Freezing Lines?Every time the mercury drops below thirty-two ice can form on the line with every cast Timothy Kusherets Did you know that one of the most plaguing issues about winter steelheading is the line and the ice sure to form on iit? Every time the mercury drops below thirty-two ice forms on the line with every cast. The most efficient way to get rid of the ice is to dip the entire blank of the rod in the water whenever the spool thickens with buildup. If you fish for these dandy fish then you’ll definitely be facing this problem. Taking the time to coat the blank with WD-40 ensures longer times between the need to dip the rod, but the inevitability of putting the rod in the water will happen. Make sure to avoid shallow water, boulders, logs, and other debris that might grab the tip of the rod, but other than that this little tidbit will help you stay into the fish when novice fishermen are sure to become frustrated enough to leave. © Timothy Kusherets 2007 |
