Tips and Advice

Colors of Nature

Fish will let anglers know they’ve been spotted by going off the bite

Timothy Kusherets
Clothing matched to the environment will make you virtually invisible to fish.
Take a good long look at the color of all the gear here in the photograph. The banks of the river are green and brown so fishing garb should reflect those elements that holding fish will find natural. Bright colors clash against the background making it easy for fish to spot anglers and consequently putting them off the bite in the same instant. With the matching gear and clothing I'm able to get close to holds for the best possible presentations, which translates into more fish on the hook.

Wear colors of nature when out on the water or wading. If you’re in a boat and the sun is out wear blue. Wear grey for overcast days. If fishing from the bank or shoreline, match clothing to that of the surrounding areas. Stark clothing of orange, red, and yellow catch the attention of fish putting them off the bite. Fish aren’t that intelligent, but they’re smart enough to know when something is wrong. Fish will let anglers know they’ve been spotted by going off the bite and staying that way. Always match fishing clothing to environmental conditions and there isn't a species of fish that will be able to spot you.
