Defining the Low Tide

Low tides are deceptive in convincing anglers that it's the best time to fish since spotting jumping salmon is easier. Don't be fooled.

(Ebb, outgoing, Tide)

Low

Low tides produce some consistent fishing opportunities. The volume of water ranges from nine to twelve feet of water as the tide goes out (ebb). This kind of tide does have significant water movement but does not stress migrating salmon. Current without torrential movement keeps fish on the bite since bait is easier to find near drop-offs, eddies, and shorelines. Two hours before slack and two hours past the slack are the best times to fish this tide. Track holding fish by the species throughout the season on the low tide for consistently productive times to fish for multiple species at the same time in the relative same location. It’s possible to hit into Chinook on the incoming tide and hit into Coho on the outgoing tide within a four hour period of the same day during the same tide cycle.
